See Julie Run: Training To Beat Cancer

She's doing what?!? Yes, it is true! I will be running the Mayor’s Midnight Sun Marathon on June 18, 2005 in Anchorage, AK as part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training®(TNT), a nationwide endurance training and fundraising program.

TNT will provide me with coaches, a training regimen, and all the support I need to cross the finish line. In return, I have committed to raise $4,500 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to help find a cure for blood-related cancers.

Beyond the desire to complete a marathon, I have a personal reason for joining the battle against cancer..it runs in my family. In 1999, my grandfather, Whitey Smith, lost his battle with lymphoma. Other members have been diagnosed through the years. Some beat it. Some didn't.

I am not sure which seems more overwhelming...raising the money or running the 26.2 miles! But through the generosity of folks like you, anything is possible.

I ask for your help in this challenge. Your tax-deductible contribution will help make a difference in the lives of those with blood-related cancers (and wouldn’t you rather help cure cancer than give it to the IRS anyway?)

A donation of one dollar per-mile (a mere $26) would be great, but any amount is greatly appreciated. Plus, I will place your name on the contributor list of this training web site for the whole world to see!

Why is this such an important cause to support? Consider:

 Leukemia is the #1 killer of children ages 1 to 14.
 Ten times as many adults as children are stricken with Leukemia.
 Overall five-year survival rates for Leukemia have tripled in the past 40 years, up from 14% in 1960 to 44% today, thanks to research.
 Every dollar helps!

You may donate online here at the website, or send checks (payable to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society) to me at the following address: PO Box 670442, Coral Springs, FL 33067. In either case, I will send you a receipt and “thank you” note for your tax records.

Speaking of the website, I will be keeping it updated with my training and fundraising progress so you can check back to see how I am doing.

Thank you for your support! Together, we can make a difference.
